Chiropractic Treatments Provided
What to expect during your first chiropractic visit?
Initial History & Physical Exam: During your first visit, Dr. Newman will take a medical and chief complaint history to get a picture of what is going on with your body. Then she will perform a thorough physical exam which will help guide her in determining the best treatment plan to address your complaint and help you get back to doing what you love.
Treatment: In addition to receiving treatment, Dr. Newman will provide you with insight about your chief complaint, how to manage your pain and avoid painful positions at home, and will provide you with exercises and strategies to help restore your functional movement.
Personalized Treatment Plan & Education: After treatment, Dr. Newman will create a personalized treatment plan that will best suit your needs. She will continuously change and modify your treatment plan as you continue to improve and provide you with tips and strategies to help relieve your pain and be able to do what you love to do with little to no pain.
OUR BODIES WERE BORN TO MOVE, SO LET’S GET THEM MOVING!

Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy
Dr. Newman utilizes Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy (CMT), also known as spinal adjustments, through the Diversified Technique to move a joint through its end-range of motion to create more motion at the joint and in the surrounding area. CMT has many benefits including: improving motion at a joint, create a short-term increase in range of motion, cause a short-term decrease in pain, create a stretch response to the surrounding tissues, improve neuromuscular function, stimulate receptors in your joints and pain receptors, and stimulate the nervous system.

Extremity Manipulation
Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy can also be used on extremity joints! Extremity manipulation has been found to be very beneficial in post-traumatic injuries to the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle. In many situations if a joint is not centrated the surrounding muscles can become inhibited or imbalanced, which can lead to increase in pain and decrease in mobility with everyday activities and exercises. Dr. Newman has found that extremity manipulation paired with rehabilitation exercise is a great combination to restore strength functional movement to improve joint centration and muscle balannces.

Exercise Rehabilitation
Dr. Newman loves exercise and leads a very active lifestyle! She believes that exercise should be a part of every patient’s chiropractic care. Dr. Newman previously worked as Kinesiologist before becoming a Chiropractor and has plethora of exercises in her toolbox and has spent many hours working and coaching patients through proper form and techniques. Her goal when working with you is to get you moving better and feeling stronger so you can get back to doing what you love.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) was established by Pavel Kolar, PT, PhD from the Czech Republic and operates out of the Prague School of Manual Medicine & Rehabilitation. DNS is a unique rehabilitation strategy that is based on the principles of developmental kinesiology and the neurophysiological and biomechanical aspects of maturing postural-locomotor system. It looks at breathing, posture, movement, and joint function from a neurodevelopment perspective that everyone undergoes in their first year of life. Dr. Newman uses DNS exercises to help address breathing movement dysfunction in her patients by promoting proper movement patterns, optimal spine alignment and the appropriate transfer of forces through joints when performing activities.

Soft Tissue Manipulation
Dr. Newman utilizes hands-on manual therapy and instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation (IASTM) utilizing tools when treating her patients. Releasing tight and tender muscles is a huge part of Dr. Newman’s practice because if there is a muscle, tendon, or fascial restriction in a certain area of the body it can limit the movements of the surrounding joints and affect the ability of the body to move functionally and can lead to overcompensations in an adjacent area of the body. For example, tightness in the hip musculature can limit the hips range of motion and can result in altered mechanics down the kinetic chain at the hip and knee. So, if you are experiencing tight or tender muscles from a new or old injury book an appointment to give those muscles some TLC.

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM)
IASTM is a soft tissue intervention that uses specialized tools to address adhesions and restrictions in the skin, myofascial, muscles and tendons by using direct compressive stroke techniques and is highly effective at breaking down fascia restrictions and scar tissue from surgery, immobilization, and overuse injuries. Dr. Newman has found this technique to be beneficial at treating areas with lots of tendon attaches such as in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, knee, and ankle.

Static & Dynamic Cupping
Dr. Newman also uses both static and dynamic cupping, which has been used for thousands of years and was developed from the Ga Sha techniques. In static cupping a cup is placed over the skin and a suction mechanism is used to help lift the fascia, increase blood flow to that area to bring in healthy nutrients and remove waste products. Static cupping can leave round discoloured marks on the skin. In dynamic cupping a cup is placed on the skin and pulled over the skin with massage oil to lift the fascia to allow for the muscles and nerves to move more freely. Both types of cupping techniques have been shown to be effective for stimulating blood flow, reducing swelling and inflammation, and treating chronic pain, superficial nerve irritation and trigger points.

Class IV Laser & Shockwave Therapy
At the clinic Dr. Newman offers Class IV Laser and Shockwave Therapy (SWT) treatment to address acute, chronic, and inflamed conditions of the musculoskeletal system. Class IV Laser uses advanced light technology that penetrates faster and deeper than Class III lasers to stimulate the mitochondria in our cells to increase energy (ATP) production to help speed of the healing process of an injury. Studies have found it is effective at treating tendinopathies, myofascial pain, chronic neck and low back pain, neuropathies, and sprains throughout the body. SWT utilizes a strong pressure wave to help stimulate healing and regeneration of bone, tendon, ligament and many other tissues and has been found to be effective in treating epicondylitis, tendinopathies, bursitis, plantar fasciitis or plantar fasciosis, shin splits, trigger points, and scar tissue treatment.

Nutritional Counseling
As much as it is important to take care of our bodies physically it is just as important to look at how the body is functionally as a whole and that includes what we put into our bodies. Clinical nutrition can have a significant impact on the bodies healing process and affects everyone’s health differently. That’s why during every initial appointment Dr. Newman will ask you questions about your lifestyle, your diet and water intake, and social habits in order to get a better of idea of what your body might need to heal from the inside out.
